Who I am
My name is Ilaria, I was born and raised in Morgex, a small village at the foot of Mont Blanc, in the beautiful mountains of the Aosta Valley. Having always lived in close contact with nature, I have developed a great interest in plants, which I have studied in many aspects over the years, graduating in plant biology.
Many years ago I discovered the world of dyeing plants and I fell in love with them: being able to experiment and create ever new color games, using imagination and inspiration, but above all the satisfaction and feeling of contentment in making unique and unrepeatable yarns and garments is the push that led me to undertake and follow this path with ever more firmness and determination.
Thus I began to follow many courses with various masters and craftsmen, to study and read numerous books on the subject, to explore and experiment a great deal, because it is true that creativity is needed but natural dyeing is based on strictly scientific and technical knowledge. In fact, natural dyeing covers an extremely vast field and it is necessary to acquire good knowledge of chemistry, biology, botany, and much more, for this reason you never stop learning and the study and experimentation path continues even after several years of practice .
During this journey I was able to refine the process, acquire dexterity and practicality and learn many different techniques, which allow you to bring back the uniqueness of nature on yarns and fabrics, obtaining creative and varied effects.
In 2020, after acquiring confidence and skill with this ancient craft full of magic, Fiori, Fili e Colori was born: my little colorful world made of herbs and flowers gathered in the mountains, many types of soft and natural yarns decorated with the colors donated by nature, which brings with it the dream of becoming not only a work project but also a style of life.
To dye, I mainly use the spontaneous plants that I find during the different seasons in my area and the flowers from my small dyeing garden, which I have started cultivating with a lot of love for some years now.
In addition to plants, I am also passionate about knitting, a technique that I love very much and that I learned as a little girl thanks to my grandmother's teachings and which I have been able to improve and perfect over the years.
Learning how to naturally dye yarns in the desired color and then use them to make accessories, small objects, decorations and children's clothing was like joining two pieces of the same puzzle.
